Am part of a multi-university project attempting to find the papers of the leaders, both military and civil, of World War I. One of the countries is, of course, Romania. To find the papers, we must first find the names of the people for which we are looking. Am tasked with finding the names of those men who led the Romanian infantry and cavalry divisions during the ugust 1916-May 1918 period.
Does anyone know where I might find such a list or does anyone here have such a list they can share?

This appears to be the list from August 1916. We have that, except for the staff officers. Thanks for the staff men. Of course the units changed commanders a number of times Also new divisons were created. Is there a further list available?

We are still working on it.The problem is that during the communist regime, 80% of the documents containg this information had been destroyed, but all it's not lost yet.We are on the right track and hopefully we will be able to give you this info before the end of the week.

By all means! Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Probably should have done this to begin, but wasn't sure about taking up space. Below is the division list as we have it. I've taken out all the academic stuff (notes, etc) so you can see the list without all the clutter. (They pay me to put the clutter in  ;) ). The format is as follows:
division, the commanders we have, and the dates that we can verify he was in command. Because certain divisions were combined in late 1916 (due to losses) one man may occasionally appear to command 2 divisions at the same time. The dates are only for the dates we know, they do not imply those were the only dates a man was in command. You'l note that what we have is primarily the opening period and the big battles of mid-1917.

We have complete information on 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23 Divisions and the 2 Vanatori Divisions.
The people putting these lists together inform me (I'm the collator) that they have seen references to a Naval and a Danube Division, but no information exists on either (at least not that they can find).
